Demand for Industry in Study Region
Apologies if this is a newbie question.
I am wondering how I can measure a study region's appetite for new industries In other words, the model assumes that the activity is new and from outside the study region. We are worried that activity at our site will simply be transferred from within the study area. For example, a retail will relocate from across town.
Thank you!

Hi David,
Are you doing your study on county-level data? If you are moving the site from town to town in the same county, then no net new change will be captured. Additionally, what inputs are you using?
Please provide a little more information about your study so that we can guide you in the right direction.
Thank you,

Thanks for the response.
The study area is a state. We are assessing a mixed-use development, with households and retail. As it stands, the model is only assessing impact at the site. However, we are trying to assess if the jobs will be coming from outside the study region. It's very hard to say, since none of the retail tenants have signed on, as of yet.

Hi Dave,
It would be difficult to determine where the jobs are coming from. The model isn't really designed to do that.
It can determine how many jobs the project will support in the region. But, there is no way to tell if the people are moving into the region for the jobs or if they were already residents of the area.Hope that helps!
Thank you,
