How do I convert jobs into Full Time Equivalents (FTE)?
You need to get an estimate of hours worked by SIC code from either the state agency that handles the unemployment insurance program (usually the Department of Economic Security) or the BEAs Survey of Current Business.
Once you have an estimate of the annual hours worked per year per person by SIC code, simply divide that value into a standard year of 2080 hours. You can then use that relationship to recalculate employment.
For example if the hours worked for a sector is 1940. Divide 1940/2080 = 0.933. Multiply your employment for this sector by 0.933 to convert to full time equivalents.
