The software allows you to change the employee compensation associated with specified output/employment in impact analysis. When you do this you do not need to reconstruct the multipliers. It also does not affect the underlying data. If you wish to change the underlying data, you need to select Customize>Study Area Data and edit the industry data in these menus.

I made the changes under Customize>Study Area Data and it asked me to rerun the model. When I did, nothing was changed.

You will need to create a new activity and re-enter the events, as the values in the old events are based on the old relationships (or retain the edited values). V3 only creates the type I multipliers and runs the induced effects iteratively. This allows the user the ability to run their specific payroll without editing study area data. The events retain the labor income values.

So, what's the correct way to do this: change earnings data (Customize>Study Area Data) BEFORE entering events?

If you change the employee compensation in the events, you do not need to rerun the model. Changing the event only changes the direct effect for that Activity. It is not related at all to the underlying model.

If it is data for a specific firm, then I would simply specify the desired output, employment, employee comp, and proprietor income (or at least the elements you have data for) in the impact analysis event. This makes your direct effects your specific firm and the indirect and induced effects on that same industry, the industry average. If you are doing a "what if" (ie, what if the entire industry were to leave) type of impact for an entire industry sector, then I would edit the study area data.

If you want to make a permanent change to the model, then use Customize/Study Area. Then you will need to rerun the model.
