Hello Patty, You are correct! The latest version of IMPLAN does not use the externally USB hard drive called the appliance. If you have the appliance version, there should be an update to convert you from the appliance version (3.0) to Appliance-Free 3.1. Please see this article: http://implan.com/V4/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=803:converting-to-appliance-free&catid=191:reference-manual&Itemid=70#converting-to-appliance-free-from-your-implan-software The models used within the manual are for examples only, and are fictional data sets. We recommend using the demo's data found in 2007 MN Washington county in the C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\MIG\Implan\Data Files\2007\MN pathway, or using any data sets you may have purchased. Unfortunately, the data sets for Oceanville, Collegeville, Dancing Goats, etc. are not provided since the using other data regions do not change the principles expressed in the manual. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns.

I came here because I have the same problem, and I do not find the answer acceptable. I paid $500 to learn the program and there are things that I cannot do with my data set and the MN example data set (i.e. combine study areas due to different years). I would like to learn the application as promised in the DVD and the guide book. It doesn't seem like too much to ask to make the hypothetical data sets for Oceanville, Collegeville, Dancing Goats, etc. available for download so that purchasers can actually use the guides as instructed. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Michael, We actually never provided those files. Those files are examples that we use to demonstrate how to perform the different techniques with the software and are intentionally fictional as they are intended to be representative. The idea behind the examples was that you would follow along and practice using your own purchased data, or there is a sample data file included with every version of the software for Washington County, MN. After you save your Model, this file should come up in "Select Data File" screen if you have not downloaded any data to your software. If you have and you want to navigate back to this file you can do so by clicking the Change Data Folder button and directing the file structure back to 2007> MN. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
