Margins
If I use 2013 IMPLAN data for the U.S. and run a national model, when I select sector 396 and enter $1 million for industry sales (2013$), and choose that I am entering the “gross retail sales,”, when I click on Preview, it shows $206,000 going toward total final demand. My question is what exactly does this $206,000 margin represent?
Does it represent the equation:
$206,000 = $1 million - Producer Value at the Factory – Transportation Cost – Wholesale Markup
OR does it represent
$206,000 = $1 million – Producer Value at the Factory
I wasn't sure if it just represented the difference between the Producer Value at the Factory and the retail price, or if the $206,000 nets out the transportation costs and the wholesale markup.

Hi Gavin! Thank you for your forum post. The value $206,000 represented in the Preview screen is the margined value that will be applied to the Multipliers. This is the value that will be analyzed and not the original value of $1MM. As a note, the value in the Preview screen does not have the deflators applied as it represents the dollar value of the data set. This would represent your first equation. It would take your initial $1MM value and remove the Production, Transportation and Wholesale component. I have also included an Article that further discusses margining retail sectors for the IMPLAN Pro system: http://implan.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=451 Thanks! IMPLAN Staff -
